General information

IBE is a novel efficient e-commerce tool for airline companies.

A fully adaptive generic interface enables the passenger to access the full range of services provided by the carrier,
thus allowing the airline company to increase the profitability of passenger sales through its own website and to foster the loyalty of its clients.


Terms and definitions

Widget
a small graphic element or module inserted onto a site or displayed on the desktop to display important and frequently updated information.


Geolocation
determining the actual geographical location of an electronic device, such as a cell phone or a computer connected to the Internet.


Additional services
services provided by airline companies to passengers before, during and after the flight, intended to increase the level of passenger comfort or to satisfy special requirements during transportation. Can be either free or paid, depending on the policy of the airline company.


Header
a section at the top of the site page that is visible on all pages of the site. As a rule, it contains a logo, menu, contacts, language switch, etc.


IATA
International Air Transport Association, an international non-governmental agency that establishes rules and procedures for air carriers, helping to improve the safety of air traffic and the level of passenger service


IATA code of city/airport
three-letter unique identifier assigned to cities and airports of the world by the International Air Transport Association (IATA). IATA airport codes are used by airlines, airline ticket agencies, reservation systems to transmit information related to the arrangement of commercial activities in the field of passenger transportation and with the interaction of different enterprises in the framework of this commercial activity.


Interface
a set of tools for user and computer system interaction. These tools mostly include buttons, checkmarks, text fields, tooltips, radio buttons, drop-down lists, etc.


Class of service
the level of service provided to the passenger during the flight in accordance with the fare selected when purchasing the ticket. There are three main levels: Economy, Business and First-class service.


Cache
high-speed data storage, normally of temporary nature. Access to data at this level is much faster than to the main place of their storage. Caching enables efficient reuse of previously obtained or calculated data.


Logo
a graphic sign, emblem or symbol used by enterprises, companies and individuals to increase recognition among users.


OW route
One Way route, i.e. from one place to another. e.g.: Moscow – Paris.


RT route
Round Trip. e.g.: Moscow – Paris – Moscow.


Site menu
a grouped set of links with section names, making it easy to go to other pages.


Module
a small block on the website, displayed at any position predefined in the template, expanding the capabilities of the components and presenting a small piece of information in addition to the main, central part of the site.


Record locator (RECLOC)
a special unique code consisting of letters and numbers, indicated on the ticket and in the itinerary receipt.


Online engine / site engine
software to manage site content without knowing programming languages.


Online check-in
procedure for registering passengers and baggage before the flight via the Internet. Allows the passenger to pre-confirm their presence on the flight and select a seat on board the aircraft. Check-in is considered completed when the passenger receives the boarding pass required for boarding.


Traffic documents
documents confirming the contract of carriage between the passenger and the airline and its conditions.


Footer
a section at the bottom of the page that contains useful, but not paramount, information. Visible on all pages of the site. The footer can contain: copyright, the name of the website developer, contacts. Sometimes the footer contains duplicated menu items from the site header.


Boarding pass
a document confirming the passenger’s right to board the aircraft. Boarding pass is issued based on the check-in of the passenger on flight.


Site / web-site
one or more logically interconnected pages. It is an array of related data that has a unique address and is perceived by the user as a whole.


Frequent Flyer Program
loyalty program for airline clients, used to encourage frequent flyers, motivating to use the services of this particular airline or its partners.


Fare families (fare groups, brands, branded fares)
division of airline fares into specified groups in accordance with the set of services provided under the fare and the conditions for their use.


Reservation system (Airline’s reservation system)
a system containing information about the schedule, fares, fare rules, availability of seats on airline flights.


Multi-City Route
a flight option, in which the passenger has more than two identical cities at the departure and destination points. e.g.: Moscow – Paris – Rome – Moscow.


Link / hyperlink
the connecting part within the document, which refers to another element (command, title, text, image, note) in the document itself, to another object (application, directory, file) located on a computer network or local disk, or to elements of the object.


Third party service provider
for the purposes of this document, a non-aeronautical services provider that has an agreement with the carrier to provide its own set of services intended to supplement the list of services that the airline company provides to the passenger.


Time limit
the deadline for the passenger to pay for the tickets. The time limit is determined by the airline company.


Cookie files
a small piece of data sent by the web server and stored on the user's computer. It is used to save data on the user devices, in practice, it is usually used to identify the user, store his/her personal preferences and settings.


E-commerce
a number of commercial transactions made on the Internet. It is a set of technologies and services that provide the opportunity to present your goods and services on the Internet, take orders, issue invoices, and receive payment via the Internet.


E-mail
a network service intended to send and receive electronic messages between users of a computer network.


QR-code
Quick Response Code - machine-readable optical label containing the information about the object to which it is attached.
